When people hear the term "renewable energy", they usually think of solar panels, wind turbines, hydroelectric plants or a combination of all of these. All of these are good and well-tried solutions. However, they have the disadvantage that they require sunlight, wind, tidal forces or a massive construction footprint, and unfortunately, are only variable providers of power. The market is seeking a consistent baseload energy source capable of integrating itself into conventional renewable energy systems seamlessly, with the potential to replace or bolster existing infrastructures. Researchers all over the world have been trying to tap other forms of energy for commercial distribution. While baseload solutions are currently nuclear energy, hydro-electric or fossil fuels, they carry known disadvantages: nuclear waste, massive carbon dioxide emissions or limited resource availability.
